How to Help

Match our Grants (general donation)

We have been awarded several grants, however in order to receive the full amount of grant money we must match those funds with outside donations. Your donation will help us do just that. Think of it as for every dollar you give, we receive a dollar in return. Your contributions will be instrumental in preserving the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant for generations to come.

Roof Restoration

The plant’s century old roof is leaking and has resulted in a collapsed support beam. A member of the plant has made a generous donation of a challenge grant for $75,000. Help us match this grant in order to secure the funds needed to repair this critical portion of our roof. Your support can make all the difference in helping our legacy stand for generations to come.

Power Up Piquette

While we treasure this old building, we can’t afford to be nostalgic about electrical systems. The old system needs to be upgraded so we can safely meet 21st-century demands.

It’s already a team effort.

A MotorCities National Heritage Area grant was awarded for the completion of the master electrical construction plans.

Albert Kahn Associates—the firm founded by Henry Ford’s favored architect—developed the plan to replace the wiring.

Detroit Edison—Henry Ford’s one-time employer—has offered to install a new transformer when we’re ready.

Kirlin Lighting—Detroit’s oldest electrical supplier—has designed replicas of the original lights.

Dillon Energy Services of Michigan donated outdoor security lights.

We’ve completed an electrical evaluation and load study, and installed a new service feeder and fire system hookup.

But there is still more to do! Today, we’re seeking funding for transformers and installation of the final distribution system. If you would like to help us power up Piquette, please see the support levels below.

Adopt A Window

If you would like to support our efforts to restore the windows, consider adopting one of them! Over the last century, harsh weather took its toll on the plant’s once-beautiful windows, but we’re bringing all 355 of them back! Our dedicated crew of window volunteers learned the skills necessary to restore and install new windows that meet the preservation standards of the Secretary of the Interior (National Park Service).  Adoptees receive a brass name plate with your choice of inscription placed on your window.
